The Un-Mothered

I love Mother’s Day. Today I will receive handmade gifts from my children that have been lovingly crafted from crepe paper or plaster of Paris. I treasure it. But Mother’s Day is also bittersweet for me, an orphan, who has been un-mothered. So as I proudly wear my macaroni necklace or display my hand painted terra cotta planter, I will also be thinking about the fact that:

I was born into a world that looked like this…

One where mothers loved and protected their children like this…

Or sometimes like this…

A world where mothers sacrificed so families were created that looked like this…

And like this…

Before they could look like this.

Happy Mother’s Day to my mom and my birth mom. I love you both.

I’ll be sharing more of my story on Tuesday, the 35th anniversary of my adoption. I hope you come back :)

How are you celebrating Mother’s Day?

**Most of the photos used on this post were used with gratitude from Babylift, a site that documents the journey of Vietnamese orphans like myself. Thank you!

This was great, the images, wow. I saw that other link you retweeted last night, and my heart hurt for hours. This is incredible. .

Gotta say. A whole new feel to this page, and everything seems to fit perfectly together. From the words, to the images, to the sleekness, to the roughness when you try to portray it.

I think the way this was put together matches your personality, and message 100%.

Thank you friend. It made my heart hurt too. Lots of tears last night. But, a hurting heart is a tell tale sign that it's still working ;)

(And the site does look really great doesn't it)

Thank you for this. God is using the blogosphere to show me what I believe is His desire for our family to foster and maybe someday adopt. This was another poke at my heart.
